project overview
SUPER ULTRA MODERN GRAPHIC is a printed publication that dissects and catalogs the hyper-stylized visual language of contemporary K-pop. The project deconstructs the genre's defining aesthetic codes—maximalism, Y2K nostalgia, vivid color palettes, and rhythmic editing—translating these kinetic elements into a static print medium.
Design Methodology
The project interrogates how the visual intensity of the screen can be transposed onto the page, focusing on rhythm, repetition, and structural cues. The book is organized into three distinct sections bound by a shared grid system, each interpreted differently to reflect changes in content and tone. A smaller supplemental insert is precision-aligned within the main structure, ensuring editorial coherence while adding physical depth.
Intent
Beyond mere documentation, the publication functions as a design object that embodies the very language it records. By highlighting the insight and dedication of the creators shaping this industry, the book serves as both an analytical archive and a visual tribute to the field's distinct visual universe.
